Tendons and Ligaments

Tendons and ligaments are soft connective tissue. Tendons connect muscle to bone and make movement possible. Ligaments connect bone to bone and add stability to the joints.

Athletic injuries often involve the tendons and ligaments. Because these tissues do not generally have as much blood flowing to them, the healing process can be slow and in fact, such injuries sometimes never heal completely. Chance of injury is higher in older people because the natural water content in the connective tissue, which is vital for maintaining its elasticity, decreases with age.
